Mark Bakke

Director of Property Operations

Mark joined Tower Commercial in 2020 as Vice President of Operations with over 30-years’ experience in the multi-family industry. At Tower Commercial, his hands-on approach helps the owners wring out profits while providing residents with the finest unparalleled living experience. He oversees a team of employees responsible for the daily operations of our apartment communities.

Prior to joining Tower Commercial, Mark spent 10 years working for the California based company, Advanced Management Company as Portfolio Director focused on long-term hold, value add acquisitions, and due diligence increasing the investment portfolio from 3,700 to over 9,000 units. Mark was the Regional Property Manager for Pinnacle at the World-Renowned Astoria at Central Park West for Heitman Capital located in Irvine, CA. His expertise is in Lease-Up, High-Rise, Mid-Rise, Garden Style Walk Up, Affordable, Exterior and Interior Renovation, Project Management, Due Diligence, Underwriting, Team Leadership and Value Add Operations. As a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management, Mark holds his Certified Property Manager designation and serves on the Hawaii Chapter IREM – Annual Planning & Special Events committee. 

 

Mark is Director of Property Operations at Tower Management with over 35-years’ experience in the multi-family management industry. At Tower, his hands-on approach guides the owners to wring out profits while providing residents with the finest unparalleled living experience with aloha. He oversees a team of employees responsible for the daily operations of our market rate and affordable apartment communities totaling 724 apartment homes which includes 82 units at Oasis Townhomes on the Hula Mae Multi-Family (HMMF) program working with HHFDC. Additionally, we welcome residents on Section 8 Voucher programs with City and County of Honolulu and State of Hawaii HUD Offices at Oasis Townhomes and Palms of Kilani providing affordable workforce housing. Mark oversees the Oahu properties Oasis Townhomes 406 units, Waikele Towers 50 units, Palms of Kilani 106 units, and Waiakea Villas Apartments in Hilo, HI 162 units on the big island. Total affordable and workforce housing under management is in excess of 700 units with the majority being at or below 100% of AMI, and over 50% being at or below 80% AMI.

 

Prior to joining Tower, Mark worked for Hawaiian Properties overseeing a portfolio of 1,906 units comprised of LIHTC, HMMF, HUD, HOME, USDA programs and Section 8 Voucher program through City and County Honolulu and State of Hawaii HUD Offices on the island of Oahu. He spent 25 years in the Southern California market working for Western National Property Management and Advanced Management Company as Portfolio Director focused on long-term hold, value add acquisitions, and due diligence increasing the investment portfolio at Advanced from 2,700 to over 9,000 units.

 

Mark’s expertise and background is in Affordable and Workforce Housing, Lease-Up, High-Rise, Mid-Rise, Garden Style Walk Up, Market Rate, City, County, and State Bond programs, HUD, Tax Credit, Section 8, Exterior and Interior Renovation, Project Management, Due Diligence, Underwriting, and Team Building & Leadership. As a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management, Mark holds his Certified Property Manager (CPM®) designation and is a member of the IREM Hawaii Chapter.
